The Wonder Of Christmas

The wonder of Christmas is revealed in 3 God given Names.

JOHN – JESUS – EMMANUEL

The Christmas story begins with the birth of John the Baptist.

Mary’s elderly relatives, a Priest named Zacharias, and his wife Elizabeth were granted a miracle from God. An Angel appeared to Zacharias as he was going about his priestly duties in the Temple at Jerusalem. The Angel told him that, at last, in their old age, their prayers would be answered and they would have a son, but they must call his name, John. He would be the one who prepared the nation of Israel for the coming of their Messiah, Jesus, and also baptise Jesus in the river Jordan.

John means ‘grace’, and grace means undeserved kindness. That’s how the Christmas story begins. With a revelation of God’s love flowing out to mankind, in the gift of His Son Jesus to an undeserving and sinful world.

The Christmas story moves on to the appearing of the Angel, Gabriel, to Mary and the announcement of the miraculous conception and birth she would experience. Her troubled fiancé, Joseph, is told in a dream that he must call the virgin born son, Jesus. This wonderful name means ‘Saviour’. As HM The Queen said in one of her Christmas broadcasts, the world did not need another politician, or general, but a Saviour. Jesus would be that Saviour who would pay the price of human redemption by His death upon the cross to save us from our sons and give the gift of everlasting life to everyone who put their trust in Him.

The Bible further tells us that Christ’s birth fulfilled an ancient prophecy that stated ‘They shall call His Name Emmanuel. Which means, God with us. That is the wonder of Christmas and the wonder of the babe in the manger. In the greatest mystery of all God had entered the human race. God had become man, and, that perfect Man who is also God would, in His humanity, pay the price of human redemption by His death on the cross. The shadow of the cross was cast over the manger.

JOHN – JESUS – EMMANUEL
Wonderful names with a message from God. His undeserved love gives the gift of a Saviour, and that Saviour to all who will receive Him, is GOD WITH US.

Have a blessed Christmas and know that you are more than welcome to join us at Calvary Church!
